Try-Hard Thursdays Wk.1

This week is a quick deck overview of Red Affinity, this deck was a top 8 contender in Pro Tour Philadephia in 2011 so it will need some updating (covered below) but the core of the deck will be same. So without further delay let us dive in:

4 Darksteel Citadel
3 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Mountain
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Atog
4 Frogmite

4 Vault Skirge
2 Fling
4 Galvanic Blast
1 Shrapnel Blast
4 Cranial Plating
4 Mox Opal
3 Springleaf Drum
4 Blood Moon
3 Etched Champion
1 Magus of the Moon
4 Mindbreak Trap
3 Torpor Orb

Deck Overview:

This affinity deck focuses on using a less greedy card pool to make use of cards such as Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon in post board match ups. This allows the deck to shutdown the greedy manabase of otherwise tough game 2 matchup as early from turn 1 with mana accelerant that fit in any affinity deck. Keep in mind that Magus of the Moon only comes in against deck which does not run lightning bolt:

Blood Moon   Magus of the Moon

This deck uses some card otherwise not used in other affinity decks since they do have better counter parts. Such as Atog or ,from the most recent set, Ravenous Intruder. These cards only belongs in a all in strategy since any removal on the turn where you activate their effect will put you behind on the board.

Atog Ravenous Intruder

Another unique addition to this build is Fling which lets the deck push damage pass blockers and in respond to removal. If we need a replacement Temur Battle Rage would be a good choice since it also effective doubles the damage dealt without losing the creature.

Finally we have our last mention, Bombard courier is a card printed in Kaladesh which brings a bit more early game pressure and more burst (since it has haste) or gas (if it got a few hits early game) during the mid game. This card would replace vault Skirge in the main board making the deck a lot more “all in”.

That is about it for this deck let me know if you have any question in the comment section below. Peace out!
